World War II Emergency Issues
The United States involvement in World War II produced two different kinds of emergency paper money. These emergency notes addressed specific needs relating to the war effort in their respective areas of circulation. One emergency issue was used primarily in Hawaii, while the other issue saw military use in North Africa and southern Europe. Both emergency issues helped ensure the economic security of the United States during a time of profound crisis and conflict. These notes, known to collectors as “Hawaii” and “North Africa” notes, were produced in significant quantities, and remain popular as historic artifacts of the War.
